jumping the first hurdle

Monday through Friday were great, then I hit the weekend, I felt hungry and wanted to eat all in sight. Not sure if it is the lack of structure or that food is more accessable. I did exercise 3 times this weekend.
Any suggestions of ways to get my mind off food!

Go Gena! I know you can do it!
I also have cravings at night and on the weekends. I think it is because I don't have as much going on so I have more time to think about FOOD. Before giving in, grab a water bottle (because sometimes your body is just telling you to get a drink), and find something active to do. Take a walk, mop the floor, clean a bathroom, work in the yard, whatever, just something to distract yourself. More times than not, when you are done, you will find the craving has past and now you can relax.
Another thing that has really helped me in the past is keeping a journal of what I have eaten so I don't go over my calories for the day. Then you can "save up" for a couple of cookies later, or whatever sounds good. One time I had a whole "meal" of Doritoes. I had been craving them for a while so that is what I had with my alotted dinner calories. After that I could resist a little easier!

Hey Gina - I agree with Brooke on everything she said. I also agree with what you said regarding lack of structure. My weekends are usually filled with "whatever" So for my day off and weekend (company coming) I am going to try and make out a menu for me and see if that helps. If I also have measured raw vegies and fruit in containers ready to go I am hoping I will reach for them instead of anything else.

Hang in their Gina. Brooke and Michelle have said some positive ideas to consider. When you have these food cravings try to determine what's causing them. I've found that my best tactic is to change my focus or environment when I can't get over the "hunger" I'm feeling. Especially when I'm really not hungry, I may not be as satisfied as I want.
Another thought, sometimes you just have to give-in to your cravings but as you do, consider this. Before giving in, don't try to quell the desire with small servings of this or that because they oftentimes don't satisfy you. Then you end up with the extra unwanted calories before splurging on what you really wanted in the first place.
Stay strong...you can do it.
